Five Questions with Made with Love

Five Questions with Made with Love

by Crystal Ho, December 9, 2016

Made with Love Delectable Edibles is all made with natural, organically grown & local small farm ingredients by loving human hands. The owners, Colin & Alexandra, “source raw & organic fair-trade ingredients direct from small organic farmers often and everything we create is made lovingly by real human hands”. Read on to discover the story behind Made with Love… And remeber to catch them at the upcoming Green Market in North Vancouver!

When did the idea of launching Made with Love take root?

Made with Love Delectable Edibles tumbled into being in the Spring of 2001. Colin &Alexandra Proctor, following a gentle suggestion of consciousness, mixed their first three Spice Blends as a last minute extra to take to the Spring Extravaganza, a local craft fair in the small rural town of Canning, Nova Scotia.

Their business destiny was launched that fateful weekend as Spice Blends ran off the table, causing late-night panic for the unseasoned couple who worked thru darkness to meet the unbelievable demand for their original creations.

Tell us about your favourite product from your collection.

This time of year that is a very hard question to answer. We make our organic Aztec Chocolate Truffles for a very limited time – from November to the end of February and they are so decadently beautiful it is hard not to single them out.

We use the best quality Italian Organic Dark Chocolate blended with fresh organic whipping cream or vegan coconut cream, infused with our Aztec Chocolate Spice Blend. This extraordinary spice blend brings together the subtle flavours of raw cacao, rich vanilla bean, dark roast organic coffee, sweet and hot chilies, sultry spices and natural sea salt. Then we garnish them with dried rosebuds and hand roasted coffee beans. They are best served as a tiny fairy cake, with fresh raspberries and whipped cream!

But next to our #1 Top Seller Pesto Garlic Spice Blend or the small artisan batches of Made with Love organic local fruit preserves that sell out of each autumn it is hard to pick a favorite!

What are some of the proudest achievements of your creative career so far?

When we grew Made with Love from a single family business, to a community artisan food company it was a difficult decision. Compromising our Made with Love integrity was not an option. How could we continue to provide the hand crafted quality we insist on, with many more human beings engaged in the project. We found by clearly stating our dream, mission and purpose we began to attract artisans and farmers who are clearly on the same page. Love before Profit. This growth has allowed us to seriously shift the business landscape, engaging the power of conscious spending to direct our increased purchasing power towards the small farmers, family businesses and eco green options focusing our energy on Our Motto – Happy Healthy People on a Happy Healthy Planet!

What is a tip you have for current Etsy shop owners or those who are thinking about opening a shop?

Opening our earthmarket.etsy.com shop was a serious turning point for our online sales, providing a great tool for internet marketing which allowed us to reach a much larger audience. The key to Etsy marketing is slow and steady wins the race. It took many years invested to grow our following. Consistent beautiful photos and the perseverance to list and relist items many times daily makes the best rankings. The more often we are featured, the better the sales, so keep up the regular daily listings and give your shop time to build momentum. Believe in yourself. Know you will achieve your dreams and it will happen. Don’t give up!

What are you most excited for about this December?

Reconnecting with all our beautiful community in North Vancouver. Made with Love will spend most of December 2016 in The Pipe Shop Building in Lonsdale Quay. It is a wonderful venue we first discovered with the Autumn Etsy Vancouver Market. We will join them again as a sponsor for the Etsy Vancouver Winter Market and will stay for a Very Green Christmas Market at the Pipe Shop daily from 11-6pm and Fridays til 8pm from December 14th to 23rd. Looking forward to seeing all your shining faces again. Happy Holidays everyone.
