When did the idea of launching craftedvan take root?
We were both high school friends who enjoyed crafting and scrapbooking together. We often made gifts for our friends and boyfriends. One day we started chatting and dreaming of what it would be if we were to start selling our items. We went to the dollar store, spent $50 on random things and began making! It resulted in some random (and definitely not all successful) products. Fast forward many projects and products later, is now what you see with Craftedvan!
Tell us about your favourite product from your collection.
Our magnetic bookmarks are our favourite type of product because they’re unique and they encourage the act of reading, something we both grew up loving. We put a lot of work into iterating them into the version they are now! Some of our favourite designs include the cherry blossom because of it’s prettiness and elegance, couch potato because of its sense of humour, and the two otters holding hands because who doesn’t like otters?!
Who inspires you and your creative process?
We have always been obsessed with stationery and beautiful work – it’s one of those things you can never have too much of! So anything pretty is inspiring, whether that be signs around town, books, menus, artwork, etc. Our biggest inspiration though would be our customers via social. We love hearing what things they like and get excited about. They take amazing photos and put so much personality into what they post. As for creative process, we take inspiration from either our favourite things or suggestions from others. We agree on it as a pair and then get to creating! It’s nice being handmade because we have control and ability to make anything we like!
What are some of the proudest achievements of your creative career so far?
We love celebrating every win no matter how small or big ! Some of our biggest achievements include: traveling to Toronto for the One of a Kind show, reaching 25k followers on instagram, being featured on huffington post / buzz feed, getting a pop-up spot at the BCIT bookstore and working with Owl Crate for their June box!
Tell us something exciting that you have planned for craftedvan in the next 12 months.
We just started our subscription option where we send a exclusive package monthly to our subscribers. Our first one just went out and we were very proud of that! Then we have craft fairs in edmonton, calgary and Toronto coming up. We also plan to apply for the New York Stationary Show and are crossing our fingers that we can make it into that!
